Flora

Eucalypt Savanna
The most common vegetation type on Jawoyn country is grassy open forest and woodland dominated by various eucalypts. It is often referred to as savanna or eucalypt savanna.

Diverse range of species
Although the savanna community is widespread, floristically diverse and contains many useful species, there are other vegetation types in the region that are important but restricted in extent. These include significant areas of:

  • Lancewood,
  • Kumpij (Acacia shirleyi) forests,
  • Open grasslands,
  • Paperbark or larruk forests,
  • Riverine and billabong habitats

There are also small patches of monsoon vine forest and swamps. In the more northerly areas there are small areas of Allosyncarpia forests, permanently wet monsoon vine forests and sandstone plateaus.
